Project description
As a group of three, (myself, Oliver, and Kelly) we decided that we would find the volume of all the materials we used to build a hamster cage. Initially, we would have included the steel wire mesh on the lid, but we quickly realized that it was impractical, especially because we were only able to meet up once due to distance. Instead we calculated the volume of the wooden sides, bottom and glass panel on the front as well as the cylindrical hot glue sticks we used to attach the panels together.
Volume of the sides, bottom, and glass front panel
We found the volume of each panel using the formula for the volume of a rectangular prism, V = L x W x H,
Floor piece volume: 1,402 in^3
Side wall 1 volume: 900 in^3
Side wall 2 volume: 900 in^3
Back wall volume: 1,098 in^3
Glass volume: 249.312 in^3
Combined volume: 4,549. 312 in^3

Volume of the glue
We also found the volume of the hot glue sticks (Cylinder volume formula) using V=πr2h.
The result we got as the volume: 6.9 in^3
Adding that to the wall volume we got V= 4556.212 in^3
